Both James Beedham and Niccolo Curradi will be performing in What You Will – The Concert at the Actors Church Covent Garden. What You Will is a new musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. The original play has been edited to tell the story from the perspective of Feste, but maintains Shakepeare’s original language throughout. Tickets are now on sale here – the link will take you to the Iris Theatre website.
“Twelfth Night is one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays, but is done so often nowadays that we often take certain circumstances within the plot for granted,” says writer Oliver Mawdsley. “The play is arguably Shakepeare’s most musical, even though many of the original settings for the songs have been lost to time. In What You Will, not only have the original songs been reimagined, but sections of the text have also been musicalised allowing the audience to connect with the story on a different level and look with fresh eyes on the dilemmas and decisions of the characters.”
Some of the music first appeared in a site-specific production of Twelfth Night by Malkin Tower at the Victoria Baths in Manchester in May 2013. The show was directed by Anna Marsland, who will also direct What You Will when it receives its concert premiere at the Actors’ Church, Covent Garden on 23rd and 24th February 2015.
